The plot looks amazing. Most varieties are at R3, approaching R4. The population trials are producing some interesting results, with definite ear-size differences. The question will be whether higher populations push yield over the top.
Corn approaching V12 stage, approximately 5 leaf to VT. We should see tassels end of next week. Corn is not under much stress even with the heat. Check out Chuck Belanger’s video on dissecting a corn plant!
Hybrids are at about the V10 stage and have all been topped up with Y-dropped nitrogen in the intensive management trials. Hybrids 4049 and 4691 are growing very rapidly and have a very upright leaf structure, whereas 3690 has more of a pendulum leaf structure and has less light penetrating deeper down in the canopy. 38K entries are slightly taller than the same hybrids at 32K and 26K respectively. Currently entries at 38K look to have little to no stress.
Corn planted with conventional tillage; previous crop was wheat.
